In this series I used the nineteen surviving Ignudi figures from Michelangelo’s Sistine Ceiling as a starting point, making line drawings of each. Next I overlaid them with three very lightly drawn rectangles. I shaded the figure within these boundaries, more or less realistically, while leaving those parts of the figure outside the rectangles untouched. I then smudged, drew and erased through these parts and into the open areas as I felt inspired to do. Finally as a way to unite the compositions, I added one bold gestural line through the entire piece.
